The Traveler hook, made famous by online penetration testing work videos and presentations is an incredibly powerful tool that will allow you to bypass the locks on outward opening doors.
Many modern door latches have an additional protrusion next to the main latch known as a 'DEAD LATCH'. When the door is correctly hung and the strike-plate properly installed, the dead latch will be in a depressed position when the door is closed. This prevents the main latch from being depressed, and therefore doesn't let the door open unless the right key is used from the exterior or the handle is used from the interior.
When the dead latch doesn't depress, whether due to door tolerances, installation mistakes or an incorrectly sized or installed strike-plate - three things that are depressingly frequent - the door then becomes vulnerable to the Traveler Hook (shrum tool) exploit.
